Chrome Editor App

Over the past few months I’ve been working on the new Chrome Editor App for the Google Web Apps Store.

So far it’s been interesting building an app on the Google Chrome Dev application environment since things seem to change pretty frequently.

If you’ve used the Chrome Editor Extension in the past there are many new features and very slick new user interface coming soon to the Chrome Editor App version.  I feel this project is becoming much more exciting than I ever imagined.

If you’re wondering how to get the new Chrome Editor App it’s not possible yet since I’m waiting for the Google Web App store to launch because it doesn’t exist yet.  The news from Google was it was coming in the Fall of ’10.  The Chrome Editor App is a download through the Chrome Web Store which Google is working on as I post this very entry.    It is a store where you can buy new and exciting Apps for the Chrome Browser.   Some will be paid, and some will be free.  I’m not sure about the fine print just yet as Google updates Chrome and its details very often.

So far functionality of Chrome Editor App is subject to change as well as the user interface.  I do think that the app version has a lot of cool new features that developers can find even more useful.

I can now support more than one language, using “sets” of libraries of code references.  Right now I have sets for (HTML4, HTML5, Blueprint CSS, PHP, Actionscript , and Javascript)  the language snippets are subject to change as well as the keystrokes to access them.

The new save to desktop feature lets you save out your (.html, .js, .as, and .css) files to your desktop so you can upload them to a web server or for later reference.

The new full screen preview button allows you to preview the page in a new tab with Chrome’s rendering capability.

There are also themes for Chrome Editor to make your coding experience more fun.  So far I have made a few fun ones like (Warp Zone, Dark Side of the Moon, and Chrome Alternate.)

These are just a few advanced previews on the new Chrome Editor App.  I hope you’re as excited as I am about the future of this project and what might be next down the line.
